Our goal
Improve conditions for the exercise of the right to education, health and a decent standard of living for the most disadvantaged populations, with the participation of the target populations, which favors the sustainable development of rural communities in southern Honduras.
Our programs
PAIPI | Comprehensive Early Childhood Care Program.
PAIPI contributes to the comprehensive development of early childhood in rural communities in southern Honduras, where 89% of households live in poverty. With actions from the gestation period, care for healthy growth and development of children under 6 years of age and capacity building in the family, pre-school centers and the community, more than 1,300 children are benefited, preventing malnutrition and promoting early stimulation. Global malnutrition has been reduced from 14.7% in 2013 to 4.3% in 2023, which also contributes to the reduction of infant mortality.
Healthy Families
Healthy Families strengthens family and community capacities for self-care, promoting healthy conditions and lifestyles. More than 2,350 families, of which 57% live in severe poverty, are supported to have healthy housing, with projects for basic water and sanitation, healthy floors, stoves with fireplaces, accompanied by health education. It also encourages family food production, promotes sexual and reproductive health, the prevention of chronic non-communicable diseases and strengthens local organizations for community participation in health. This program contributes to the reduction of multidimensional poverty by improving health and the standard of living in households.
Together for Education
Thriving in School contributes to the comprehensive development of school-aged children by providing books and school supplies, food security, school health, promotion of children's rights, student leadership, a culture of peace, life skills, environmental sustainability, infrastructure improvement, and scholarships. The program is implemented in the rural sector, where educational coverage is very low, around 50%, according to UNICEF Honduras. It reaches more than 3,200 children from 4 to 15 years of age in 28 rural public schools, and involves teachers and associations of mothers and fathers of families in its actions. The program tries to ensure that there is no reason that prevents each child from attending school, improving school coverage and thereby reducing multidimensional poverty.
Education for All
Education for All provides alternative education opportunities to young people and adults who have not had access to education, in rural communities where less than half complete basic education, only 17% have the opportunity to pursue secondary education and the illiteracy rate is over 20% (INE, EPHPM 2023). The program improves the educational level of the population over 15 years of age, through literacy, accelerated primary education, alternative modalities to complete basic education (ninth grade), high school and distance technical education, thus contributing to reducing multidimensional poverty. Training young people who neither study nor work opens doors to better job opportunities.
Conscious Leadership
Leaders in Action contributes to strengthening the organizational and leadership capacities of community-based organizations, promoting inclusive and proactive participation in the management of community development, based on a culture of peace and environmental sustainability. To this end, leadership is strengthened, the development of comprehensive community development plans is encouraged through projects with equity and accountability, rural banks are strengthened, and the care and protection of forests, water, and soil is promoted in rural communities in southern Honduras, where 89% of families live in multidimensional poverty. This program contributes to the sustainability of community development.
